Blanco Said Levees Were Safe on August 29

Uh-oh... you probably won't see this on the front page of the NY Slimes or WaPo but Gov. Blanco told federal officials that "We keep getting reports in some places that maybe water is coming over the levees. We heard a report, unconfirmed, I think, we have not breached the levee. I think we have not breached the levee at this time" on August 29, 2005 AFTER Hurricane Katrina hit. According to the National Weather Service, a levee breach was discovered as early as 9:12 AM on 8/29 and they issued a flash flood warning. Blanco did tell officials that floodwaters were rising in parts of the city. But Blanco is safe from any backlash from the media because it is all Bush's Fault.

Brit Hume mentioned this little tidbit on that "exclusive" AP video of President Bush prior to Katrina coming ashore:

"The AP is calling that tape from a White House briefing on Hurricane Katrina, which caused such a stir when it was released yesterday, "confidential video footage." In fact, most of the August 28 briefing was open to the press and was covered by numerous media outlets including FOX News. What's more, the entire transcript from the briefing was made available to Congress and to the public last fall."
