Iraq War Vet Suing Michael Moore

In October 2003 I received a phone call from my daughter who was away at college. She was crying hysterically. In between her heaving sobs I heard her say "Paul is dead". Paul Bueche was a friend of hers. He was a member of the Alabama National Guard but was deployed to Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah prior to going to Iraq. Jennifer met Paul's roommate, another National Guard soldier, and for two months in the spring of 2003 four guys from the AL National Guard and four girls from Effingham Co were best friends. They were all 18 to 20 years old. They went to movies, to the beach and just hung out. The night before the guys left for Kuwait, the girls threw them a party. Once they were in Kuwait, they continued to email back and forth. Then Jenn received the phone call from one of the guys.

"Paul J. Bueche, 19, of Daphne, Ala.; assigned to the 131st Aviation Regiment, Army National Guard, Birmingham, Ala.; killed Oct. 21 when a tire he was changing on a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter exploded in Balad, Iraq."

Fast forward to 2004 and Michael Moore's mockumentary, Fahrenheit 911, was released. In response to all the lies (over 60) in Moore's fairy tale, Dick Morris and others put together a DVD titled "Farenhype 911". Farenhype countered every single one of the lies and then some. Of course I purchased it.

While watching the DVD, a young soldier was speaking about his part in Moore's lie-fest. This young man lost both his arms when a helicopter tire exploded. Sgt. Peter Damon was injured in the accident that killed Spec. Paul Bueche. Damon explained that he was filmed at Walter Reed and was talking about the pain he was experiencing. He did not know it was for Moore's movie. As a matter of fact, Damon found out about his part in the movie when a friend at the hospital called him "Hollywood" and Damon asked why.

Now today, the New York Post is reporting that Peter Damon is suing Michael Moore...

"A double-amputee Iraq-war vet is suing Michael Moore for $85 million, claiming the portly peacenik recycled an old interview and used it out of context to make him appear anti-war in "Fahrenheit 9/11." Sgt. Peter Damon, 33, who strongly supports America's invasion of Iraq, said he never agreed to be in the 2004 movie, which trashes President Bush.

In the 2003 interview, which he did at Walter Reed Army Hospital for NBC News, he discussed only a new painkiller the military was using on wounded vets. "They took the clip because it was a gut-wrenching scene," Damon said yesterday. "They sandwiched it in. [Moore] was using me as ammunition."
Damon seems to "voice complaint about the war effort" in the movie, according to the lawsuit.

But what the father of two from Middleborough, Mass., was really talking about was the "excruciating" pain he felt after he lost his arms when a Black Hawk helicopter exploded in front of him. Damon wasn't expressing any opinion about the war, the suit charges, but rather extolling the drug.

"I just want everybody to know what kind of a guy Michael Moore is, and what kind of film this is," said Damon. He has appeared in two films attacking "Fahrenheit" -"Michael Moore Hates America" and "Fahrenhype 9/11."

This is wonderful news. Michael Moore used an injured hero, out of context, to sex up his little "I hate Bush" screed. I hope the judge makes Moore cough up mucho dinero for Sgt. Damon and his family. Imagine trying to recuperate from a traumatic amputation of both arms after losing a comrade only to have Michael Moore put you on the big screen as an anti-war soldier. It is too low - even for pond scum like Michael Moore.

Thank you Sgt Peter Damon! Thank you for your service to our country. Thank you for fighting for our security. Thank you for having the conviction to stand up to this pile of cow dung and showing the world what a despicable human being Michael Moore really is.

Here's a great article about Sgt. Peter Damon throwing out the first pitch at Fenway in 2005. The picture above is from the same article - He was practicing his throws for his Fenway appearance.

Here is a link to Spec. Paul J. Bueche's page at Honor the Fallen. He was an amazing young man.
