*****************************Okay I realize that it is not politically correct but I'm not exactly known for being PC. I am on pins and needles waiting for the announcement that the Butcher of Baghdad received his non-refundable ticket to Hell. As of now, the lawyers have been called to pick up his personal effects. Tammy Bruce, who is subbing for Laura Ingraham, just said that Hussein has been turned over to Iraqi authorities but I cannot find any confirmation on any online news sources. So we are still on standby...
All I can say is the execution of Saddam Hussein is an appropriate way to start off the New Year. The souls of all those murdered by the Butcher will finally be able to rest in peace.
The clock is ticking - and it is truly about time...
12.29.06 - 1225:
FOX News is reporting that Saddam has been officially transferred to Iraqi custody...
Saddam Hussein's chief lawyer told FOX News the former dictator has been transferred to Iraqi custody. The transfer from U.S. control to the Iraqis is one of the last steps necessary before the former dictator is hanged. An Iraqi judge told the Associated Press Saddam will be executed by Saturday at the latest.
It's definitely a go - the Iraqi Prime Minister has signed the execution order... Rumors are that the execution will be held at 1600 EST. I'm going out to get some popcorn and diet coke.
12.29.06 -1500:
We've got reports of Saddam being transferred to the Iraqis and then reports saying he is not. But according to Suzie over at Assorted Babble, it is now confirmed that Saddam has been transferred to the Iraqis.
Beth at Blue Star Chronicles has the best line of the day...
Saddam has been turned over to Iraqi authories and will be receiving his suspended sentence momentarily.
TICK - TOCK - TICK - TOCK - TICK - TOCK - TICK - TOCK
12.29.06 - 1550:
The current scoop is that Saddam Hussein will not be "turned over" to the Iraqis prior to his execution. According to ABC News, it is an issue of security...
Saddam Hussein will remain in U.S. custody until he is taken to his execution, which is expected to happen over the weekend, a senior U.S. defense official tells ABC News.
Even when he is taken to the gallows, the United States will be guarding him, and he will effectively be in joint U.S.-Iraqi custody.
Oh yeah - Jesse Jackson doesn't think Saddam Hussein should be executed...
CHICAGO The Reverend Jesse Jackson says U-S forces should not turn Saddam Hussein over to the Iraqi government for execution.Jackson says that to allow the former Iraqi leader to be hanged as what he calls "a war trophy" would be a "barbarity" that would only inflame tensions.
Jackson says making Saddam spend the rest of his life in prison would be a better way to "break the cycle of violence in Iraq."
Note to Jesse - no one cares what you think. Go back to your racebaiting and let the grownups deal with national security issues.
TICK - TOCK - TICK - TOCK - TICK - TOCK - TICK - TOCK

It's official. The clock will strike 10pm EST and justice will be done. Looks like we're gonna get a trifecta too...
An adviser to Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said Saddam would be executed before 6 a.m. Saturday, or 10 p.m. Friday EST. Also to be hanged at that time were Saddam's half-brother Barzan Ibrahim and Awad Hamed al-Bandar, the former chief justice of the Revolutionary Court, the adviser said.
I'm gonna take a nap so I'll be wide awake when Saddam's ticket to Hell gets punched.
12.29.06 -1950:
Close to the Zero Hour. While waiting for news of Saddam's execution, take a gander at some of the atrocities committed during his reign of terror. Warning! The videos are EXTREMELY graphic and I even had to turn away a couple of times. Don't turn your sound on - it's gut wrenching. But the next time someone tries to excuse or downplay the crimes of Saddam Hussein, guide them to this link.
