Who Is Pushing the Buttons in the Immigration Debate?

The angst among the "Deport them all" crowd has reached a fever pitch (see my post below about the meltdown at FreeRepublic). However, this post over at WizBang’s Bomb is truly frightening in its comparisons and reflects the complete break from reality that I have previously only seen at the D.U. pit….

“In a spiritual sense, May 25 may actually represent a greater disaster for We the People than either Pearl Harbor or 9/11.”

“But by a vote of 62-36, the US Senate said to hell with homeland security and American sovereignty. To hell with American language, borders and culture. Most tragically, to hell with the rule of law and to hell with We the People.”

“Only Judas has staged a more blatantly evil betrayal.”

This is definitely crossing the line into an alternate reality. Comparing the Immigration Bill vote to Pearl Harbor, 9/11 or Jesus’ betrayal is not just ridiculous, it is disgusting. This type of over the top nonsense is why many of us have distanced ourselves from the newly formed anti-Bush wing of the Republican Party.

What has pushed so many on our side over the edge? It’s not like immigration is a sudden new development. It’s been an issue for over 20 years. There was legislation passed in the 60’s and the 80’s. Who is pushing the panic button?

I am going to tell you who I think is one of the button pushers. I will probably lose readers and will be inundated with “hate mail” – but I have never shied away from speaking out (remember Jill Carroll, Dubai Ports, etc). I am not about to now when I see my party being shredded to pieces. Who is this driving force? Take a look at Mr. Minuteman extraordinaire, Chris Simcox.

Here’s what Simcox had to say about the Senate bill

“This sends the message that if you play by the rules, you suffer; if you enter the United States illegally, you are not subject to the rule of law.”

“…these Senators will pay the price come election time… The arrogance and cavalier disregard of the will of the American people by this Senate will not be forgotten – there will be an accounting.”

“The existing border crisis is a dereliction of duty by those entrusted with this nation’s security, sovereignty and prosperity. The US Senate just left America vulnerable to a tsunami of migrants at the border, to terrorist infiltration and to an unprecedented crime wave by drug smugglers, thieves, rapists, human traffickers and murderers who cross our frontier at will – and whose bravado and aggression will now increase with the Senate’s message of our apparent national weakness.”

“…until the US government performs its most basic constitutional duty to these United States, and safeguards the people and protects the territorial integrity of America.”

Interesting to note – the claim of the “tsunami of migrants” is mentioned in at least 3 of the Press Releases from the Minutemen Civil Defense Corps over the past 6 months.

Trying to find unbiased reporting about Chris Simcox is a struggle. To some, Simcox is a reincarnation of George Washington, a patriot down to the bone. To others he is the devil incarnate, a white supremacist madman. Very little straightforward reporting can be found on Simcox or his Minuteman Civil Defense Corps. World Net Daily and Newsmax have been the biggest purveyors of the Simcox story and his biggest supporters.

The best way to judge Chris Simcox is to use his very own words…

12/13/02 – “We will no longer tolerate the ineptness of our government in dealing with these criminals and drug dealers. It is a monumental disgrace that our government is letting the American people down, turning us into expendable casualties of the war on terrorism.”

I defy our president to arrest any of us for doing what the government refuses to do to protect the sovereignty of our beloved country. This land belongs to every citizen; it’s OUR land. I challenge my government to come and arrest me. We are not “crazies”, we are concerned citizens, we are responsible people.”

“I am trying to force the president of the United States to do his job. He took an oath to protect us from enemies. He has no business sending troops to foreign countries when he has not sealed our own borders.”

January 2003 – “… the time has come for citizens to show the ‘inept Homeland Security Department a thing or two about how to protect national security and the sovereignty of our Democratic Republic.”

March 2003 – “There’s something very fishy going on at the border. The Mexican army is driving American vehicles – but carrying Chinese weapons. I have personally seen what I can only believe to be Chinese troops.”

“It’s our land. I’m not afraid to step on that land and do the same thing, and I challenge my government to come and arrest me.”

March 2003 – “So far, we’ve had restraint, but I’m afraid that restraint is wearing thin. Take heed of our weapons because we’re going to defend our borders by any means necessary.”

4/6/05 – “Our aim is to send a message to Mr. Bush and Congress that they have not listened to the demands of citizens.” (Notice the use of “Mr. Bush”)

3/16/06 – “We’re the future when it comes to immigration policy, and that’s what scares the politicians.”

4/20/06 – “Simcox said Wednesday that he’s sending an ultimatum to the president, through the media, ‘You can’t get through to the president any other way’, to deploy military reserves and the National Guard to the Arizona border by May 25.”

“The state and federal government have bought up most of the land around the border. I suspect that’s why we’ll never get control of the border.”

“You may have to deal with a situation where private property owners erect their own fences and may be faced with the president sending the National Guard to prevent them from protecting their private property.”

4/20/06 “He has been president for over five years, and still he has not acted to secure our territorial frontier, even as his administration admits the United States government does not have operational control of our borders.”

“President Bush and Congress have taxed the wages of the American people to pay for the protection of our country, and expended those dollars to subsidize millions of low-wage illegal workers with housing, education, medical care and welfare benefits.”

“Should President Bush and Congress fail to fulfill their oaths of office, and meet their Constitutional obligation to protect these United States from invasion, we, the sovereign people of the United States, having suffered a long train of abuses at the hand of a willfully insolent government, do hereby declare that these States, ought, should and will be protected by American minutemen.”

5/1/06 “Do not be fooled by the misleading statements of the Border Patrol ‘public information’ spokesman. The false promise of amnesty by irresponsible politicians is causing a human tsunami over our borders by those attempting to get in under the wire, and gain US citizenship by breaking current US law.”

5/3/06 - …”elitist politicians ignoring the will of the American people for their own special interests.”

5/10/06 “The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps has been warning people that our government has no intention of taking the necessary steps to secure our borders.”

5/15/06 – “President Bush’ political maneuver will do nothing more than place career desk jockeys and support personnel in a very dangerous environment – and will greatly anger the American people. We do not take lightly those who try to take us for fools.”

“President Bush must not continue to sacrifice America’s national security and public safety to demands by our ‘good friend and partner’ Vicente Fox, whose corrupt officials are in the pockets of international crime syndicates.”

“Instead he proposes to perhaps send some National Guard mechanics, to help patch up the holes shot in our Border Patrol jeeps by the Mexican Army.”

5/16/06 – President Bush’s immigration speech was “sad, disappointing, political pandering and appeasement – while national security continues to be jeopardized.”

5/16/06 – “I can even see a Tiananmen Square type showdown at the border. What will the feds do – come down and remove us?”

5/16/06 – “We can’t stop drug dealers, migrant workers, women with babies their arms; we are just not protected by the plan. The American people are being played for fools.”

5/16/06 - The president is appeasing the base. Taking us all for fools will only make the anger grow.”

Reading this makes me realize that THIS is where many in the "Deport them all" crowd are getting their talking points. I have heard these exact same statements from those using immigration as a political baseball bat against the President.

You can read more about Chris Simcox online. Just do an Internet search – there are many articles out there. I am not going to post about his “questionable” past as I do not have verification and some of the sources are way out of the mainstream. I will leave it to you to decide on that part of the story.

Nevertheless, I have serious issues with someone who uses such over the top rhetoric and fear mongering to appeal to the masses. There are many thoughtful and insightful minds in the Republic Party but the lead speaker is now someone who dares the government to arrest him, predicts a Tiananmen Square incident on the border and defames our National Guard while demanding the same National Guard pitch in at the border.

The “new media” has not questioned Simcox’s background or motives. If a Liberal was making statements like Simcox, he would have been vetted backwards and forwards. The "deport them all" crowd has put their trust in an unknown, Chris Simcox, and have tossed President George Bush under the bus. It is sad.
