Every time I hear about a military casualty, my heart just sinks. I think immediately about the family of the fallen soldier or Marine and my heart breaks. Well this week the news of a death of a Marine in Afghanistan hit close to home.
Per the DOD website...
Capt. Matthew C. Freeman, 29, of Richmond Hill, Ga., died Aug. 7 while supporting combat operations in Kapisa province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 36, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan.
According to WTOC, Capt Freeman was from a proud military family...
Freeman was a graduate from Richmond Hill High School and the second in his family to graduate from the U.S. Naval Academy. His father also graduated from the academy and was a career naval pilot. His younger sister, Ginny, is a midshipman there.
"He was a proud Marine, doing what he wanted to do," Gary Freeman said Friday afternoon. "He was a true patriot. He loved his mother, his family and his fiancée, Theresa Hess."
The arrangements are still being worked out but I have my flags ready to salute this hero as he makes his final journey home.
One of the Patriot Guard Riders posted this statement at their forum and it really touched my heart.
Each and every breath of fresh air that we take for granted is made possible because of the sacrifices of heroes like USMC Captain Matthew Freeman.
May God bless the family and friend of Capt Freeman and be with them during this difficult time. Thank you Capt Freeman for giving your life so we can life in freedom.
