McCain Fights Back - Brings Up the Obama-Ayers Connection

Man oh man - I am loving the new attitude from the McCain campaign. First they come out with those "nail on the head" web-ads about Obama the celebrity and now they counter a stupid Obama claim by bringing up the Ayers connection.

It all started with a lame-ass ad that is supposed to be running in GA (which I have yet to see broadcast) claiming a quid-pro-quo between McCain and Ralph Reed. You know the claim that McCain gave Reed a pass during the Abramoff investigation so now Reed is raising mega-bucks for McCain as "payback". TNR (hardly a bastion of right-wingedness) said the following about the ad...

The toughest (and maybe even unfair) part of the ad is the implication that there was some sort of quid pro quo between Reed and McCain. Between that and the footage of Abramoff in his black fedora and McCain appearing with Bush, the only punch the Obama campaign pulled here is failing to mention the Keating Five.

Well McCain's camp fired back with both barrels blazing...

"Barack Obama’s ad is ridiculous. Because of John McCain, corruption was exposed and people like Jack Abramoff went to jail.

"However, if Barack Obama wants to have a discussion about truly questionable associations, let’s start with his relationship with the unrepentant terrorist William Ayers, at whose home Obama’s political career was reportedly launched. Mr. Ayers was a leader of the Weather Underground, a terrorist group responsible for countless bombings against targets including the U.S. Capitol, the Pentagon and numerous police stations, courthouses and banks. In recent years, Mr. Ayers has stated, ‘I don’t regret setting bombs … I feel we didn’t do enough.’

"The question now is, will Barack Obama immediately call on the University of Illinois to release all of the records they are currently withholding to shed further light on Senator Obama’s relationship with this unrepentant terrorist?" —McCain spokesman Brian Rogers

Oh my... now if they would just make an Internet ad about that. Maybe they could find some more info about this little Ayers-Obama connection from The Weekly Standard...

Michelle Obama organized a University of Chicago panel about Bill Ayers's crime book in November 1997, just as the battle over the juvenile justice bill was heating up. That panel featured appearances by some of the key figures discussed in Ayers's book, along with Obama himself, who was identified in the press release as "working to block proposed legislation that would throw more juvenile offenders into the adult system." In effect, then, this public event was a joint Obama-Ayers effort to sink the juvenile justice bill-Obama's decision to plug Ayers's book in the Chicago Tribune the following month was part of the same political effort.

THAT is truly a quid pro quo arrangement. "You help me kill this juvenile justice bill so more criminals can be coddled by the government and I'll promote your new book." And it involved Michelle "can't touch this" Obama.

Waiting on the media to cover this.... waiting on the media to cover this.... waiting on the media to cover this.... oh never mind.

UPDATE: This would make a good McCain web ad. I especially like the background music "Dirty Little Secret"... How appropriate.
