Cop Killer's Execution Date Set

I don't read the Savannah Morning News anymore so I missed the news that Atty Genl Thurbert Baker has issued an execution warrant for convicted cop killer, Troy Anthony Davis. The scheduled date of execution is Tuesday September 23 at 7pm in Jackson, GA.

Unfortunately prior to the execution, there is the matter of the Board of Pardons and Paroles clemency hearing. The hearing is scheduled for Friday September 12 at 9am. Davis' attorneys are asking that the death sentence be commuted to life in prison.

Troy Anthony Davis was found guilty and sentenced to death in the murder of Officer Mark Allan McPhail (pictured above) in Savannah GA. Officer McPhail was working as an off-duty security guard at a fast food restaurant near the bus station when he was murdered in cold blood. Here is a description of his injuries from court transcripts...

In response to the disturbance in the parking lot, Officer McPhail, who was working as a security guard at the restaurant, walked rapidly from behind the bus station, with his nightstick in his hand and ordered the three men to halt. (T. 849). Mr. Collins and Davis fled, and Officer McPhail ran past Sylvester Coles in pursuit of Davis. (T. 851). Davis looked over his shoulder, and when the officer was five to six feet away, shot him. Officer McPhail fell to the ground, and Davis walked towards him and shot him again while he was on the ground. (T. 850). One eyewitness testified that Davis was smiling at the time. (T. 851). The victim died of gunshot wounds before help arrived.

An autopsy revealed that Officer McPhail was shot twice. One bullet entered the corner of his cheekbone on the left side and exited the back of his neck; the bullet blew away bits of his teeth, and his lip was impaled on his teeth. (T. 782-784). The second bullet passed through the armhole of McPhail’s bullet-proof vest, and entered his chest on the left side. (T. 784). This bullet pierced the lung and the aorta, and lodged in the opposite side between the third and fourth vertebrae, at the back of the chest cavity near the spinal column. (T. 784-787). The cause of the victim’s death was a loss of blood from a gunshot wound to the left side of his chest. (T. 789). The pathologist further noted that there were scrapes and lacerations on the victim’s arms and legs, and an apparent injury to his right thigh, which could have been grazed by a bullet. (T. 788-789).

Despite such a heinous act with deliberate intent, the ACLU and other anti-death penalty groups are on the Save Troy Anthony Davis bandwagon. I received an email from the ACLU today that included a form letter for me to forward to the Ga Board of Pardons and Parole. Needless to say I sent my own letter to the email address supplied by the ACLU and I included the ACLU email with the template for Mrs. Buckner's perusal.

Dear Mrs. Buckner - Attached below is a copy of an email I received from the ACLU regarding Troy Anthony Davis. Please note the form letter included in the email that is to be forwarded to you and other members of the Clemency Board. Please do not allow these spam emails to influence your decision one way or the other. This is simply another attempt to subvert justice for a young man that was viciously murdered by a punk by those using the "anti-death penalty" platform. The courts have spoken as has a jury of Troy Anthony Davis' peers. Justice has been denied for 18+ years. It is time for Troy Anthony Davis to be punished for such a heinous crime.
I trust that you and your fellow board members will do the right thing and let justice prevail.

I anxiously await the decision from the Board and look forward with eager anticipation for the day that Troy Anthony Davis takes his final journey to hell.
